Four violent gang members convicted in wild CHP chase

Four violent gang members have been convicted for their involvement in a wild car chase that ended when a California Highway Patrol officer’s cruiser rammed and was attacked with gunfire. The chase began on July 21st when CHP officer Sean Deise tried to stop a van occupied by David Gonzalez, 23, and Samiuela Sina, 18 on 50th Avenue in East Oakland.  Both Gonzalez and Sina refused to stop a couple moments later the cruiser was rammed by Gonzalez’s brother, Joseph Gonzalez, 28 and Kenyon Thomas, 17 riding in a carjacked Acura. The officer was not injured and has returned to duty.

Both David Gonzalez and Sina were arrested shortly after the incident. Joseph Gonzalez surrendered after a standoff in Oakland two-days after. Gonzales has been convicted of assault with a firearm on an officer and is expected to be sentenced June 28 to twenty-seven years in prison. Sina was convicted of carjacking and will be getting eight years.  David Gonzalez also has been convicted of carjacking and will get three years. Thomas was charged as an adult and pleaded guilty to the robbery,  he has been placed on a five year probation.
